Industrial Hygiene Services
EQ performed industrial hygiene services for a large chemical manufacturer. The work consisted of three tasks. In Task 1, exposure profiles were prepared for seven work sections: Batch Processing Unit (BPU), Continuous Processing Unit (CPU), Multipurpose Processing Unit (MPU), Quality Control Laboratory, Shipping, Receiving, and Waste Water Treatment/Underground Injection Well. In Task 2, baseline IH exposure monitoring was conducted for six work sections. In Task 3, a plant-wide asbestos identification survey (included sampling) was performed.
EQ was one of the first companies to perform exposure assessments using the exposure assessment protocol endorsed by The Chemical Manufacturer's Association. We used the Job Exposure Profile form developed by the client to perform EAPs at seven work centers. This required the identification of tasks performed within a work center where exposure to chemicals could occur, an evaluation of exposure probability and severity, assignment of a prioritization code based on these factors, and an evaluation of all chemicals used and/or manufactured at the plant.
The Chemical Manufacturer's Association (CMA) is a proponent of using a generic exposure assessment profile (EAP) as part of a member's safety and health program based on CMA's Responsible care Employee Health and Safety Code of Management Practices program. This profile is intended to be used to assist member companies in recognizing and evaluating health hazards in an efficient cost-effective manner.
EQ performed baseline IH surveys at the seven work centers. The project consisted of task identification, personal protective equipment identification and evaluation, identification and evaluation of chemicals used, air sampling (both personal and area) as required, noise exposure surveys (personal and area), illumination surveys, and ventilation surveys.
