GHG Management Services

Greenhouse gas (GHG) management is a rapidly evolving environmental issue.  Some companies are facing pressure from customers, shareholders, or the community to reduce greenhouse gases (GHGs).  Others are interested in voluntarily lowering emissions or are compelled to reduce energy consumption to save money. Many are now facing state regulations or gearing up for anticipated federal rules.

Whatever your need,
EQ can help

Demonstrated Expertise

EQ is one of the top environmental consulting firms in the nation.  Our staff is experienced, prepared, and available to consult on virtually any process or issue related to GHG Management.

We can help you:

  • Reduce your carbon footprint by decreasing energy consumption.
  • Reduce energy costs.
  • Improve performance.
  • Inventory and reduce emissions.
  • Interface with regulators.
  • Comply with regulations.

EQ staff are also certified as GHG Verifiers by CSA America, Inc., the non-profit developer of the first personnel certification program for individuals who perform third-party GHG verifications.

EPA Finalizes Greenhouse Gas Reporting Requirement

On January 1, 2010, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will require large emitters of heat-trapping emissions to begin collecting greenhouse gas (GHG) data under a new reporting system. This new program will cover approximately 85 percent of the nation’s GHG emissions and apply to roughly 10,000 facilities. Greenhouse gases are produced by burning fossil fuels and through industrial and biological processes. Facilities that emit 25,000 metric tons or more of CO2 equivalent per year will be required to report GHG emissions data to EPA annually. Regulated entities include but are not limited to:

Ammonia Manufacturing
Aluminum Production
Cement Production
Electrical Generation
Ferroalloy Production
General Stationary Fuel Combustion Sources
Glass Production
HCFC-22 Production & HFC-23 Destruction
Iron or Steel Production
Lead Production
Lime Production
Petrochemical Production
Petroleum Refineries
Pulp and Paper Manufacturing
Silicon Carbide Production

The rule requires the first annual report, covering calendar year 2010, to be submitted to the USEPA on March 31, 2011. The reporting requirement is similar to that of the Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) program, insofar as there are applicability thresholds, exemptions and exclusions.  The reporting obligations accrue on a facility basis and include any physical property, plant, building, structure, source, or stationary equipment located on one or more contiguous properties by the same owner.

EQ is already actively working with some of our existing clients on establishing compliant process management systems, work practices, record keeping systems, meter calibration and maintenance, and emission monitoring equipment.
