International Activities

In addition to its extensive work within North America, EQ has long been involved in many activities throughout the world. These have ranged from conducting training classes in Hong Kong to a cement plant in Senegal.

EQ's international efforts have been focused on training, expert environmental consultation, and on-site environmental, engineering and remediation projects.

Environmental Consulting

EQ staff members have provided expert environmental consulting on projects around the globe. Since 1999 EQ has been providing US Steel with consulting services on air pollution control processes and equipment at their european facilities.

In 2000 and again in 2004 EQ performed an environmental due diligence audit at the ISTIL steel mill in Donetsk, Ukraine under EBRD funding. The work was conducted to evaluate status of compliance with EU regulations to secure financing for expansion projects. A thorough evaluation of compliance with air, water and solid waste regulations was completed in the context of both Ukraine regulations and EU regulations.

EQ has conducted a number of projects in Eastern Europe that involved the following activities:

  • Conducted detailed inspection and evaluation of the major process units at an integrated iron and steel facility and provided recommendations regarding options for reducing emissions,
  • Provided engineering support with respect to system design to  reduce emissions to comply with European Union Emission Standards,
  • Provided consulting services for design, sizing and specification to complete detailed structural, civil, and mechanical engineering necessary to procure, construct, and fabricate the required abatement system,
  • Conducted an inspection and evaluation of a steel shop to determine the requirements for improving primary and secondary capture,
  • Conducted a research study to define the physical and chemical nature of aerosol formation causing a visible plume and defined the control options for consideration, and
  • Developed and presented a training course on preparing detailed cost estimates for major engineering projects.
