Case Study on Mercury Regulations and Mercury Variance Application Presented at Symposium

On March 29, 2011, Tim McDaniel of Navistar, Matt Walbridge of the Ohio EPA Southwest District Office, and Karen Arthur and John Wentz of EQ presented a case study at the 20th Annual Business & Industry's Sustainability and Environmental, Health & Safety Symposium in Cincinnati, Ohio.  Approximately 35 people attended the presentation and, judging from the questions asked, was of key interest to the participants.  The topic was a case study on mercury regulations and mercury variance application along with work performed to identify mercury sources, remedy the legacy sources, and integrate the work with the variance application requirements and timetables for work performed at the Navistar truck manufacturing facility in Springfield, Ohio.  Mr. McDaniel presented facility background information and discussed the possible sources of mercury, Mr. Walbridge presented mercury regulations and variance request requirements, and Ms. Arthur presented the work performed at the site to bring the NPDES discharge into compliance with mercury regulations, the work to obtain the mercury variance, and the coordination effort with the regulatory agency.
